Robot-jumper had ton of dagga

East London - Police confiscated dagga with an estimated street value of about R1.2m and weighing just more than a ton in Fleet Street.
The 1 188kg of dagga apparently was apparently loaded in Mount Frere, Transkei, by a courier vehicle from Durban and was destined for Port Elizabeth.
Inspector Stephen Marais said members of the organised crime unit saw a truck jumping a red robot in Fleet Street about 02:15.
"The vehicle was pulled over near the fire station and the driver, who was alone, appeared very nervous when he was questioned.
"When asked what was in the vehicle he admitted he was carrying something illegal," Marais said.
When members opened the rear of the truck a number of large bags fell out.
Marais said the vehicle was taken to the organised crime unit where it was unloaded and found to be carrying 40 bags of dagga among its other cargo of fabrics and motor spares.
"The heaviest bag weighed 60kg, which is unusual as bags normally weigh a maximum of 30kg," said Marais.
