Grahamstown - A 73-year-old Eastern Cape farmer who was forced to drive two robbers around in his sedan car shocked them when he drove off a 30m cliff, police said on Monday.
The farmer and the robbers survived.
Inspector Mali Govender said the farmer, who said he did not want his identity revealed, was robbed on his Bathurst farm on Sunday night.
Forced to chauffeur his attackers around in his Toyota Corolla he instead gave them a fright when he drove off a 30m cliff on the area's Woest Hill.
Govender said the farmer was watching television at home on his farm when two armed men wearing masks appeared in the room.
They tied him up and robbed him of R600 and goods before kidnapping him and instructing him to drive them away in his vehicle.
The two robbers fled after the accident and the farmer walked to a neighbouring farm and notified police.
No arrests have yet been made.
