Kroondal - A 28-year-old Rustenburg man has been arrested for allegedly kidnapping and raping his girlfriend, North West police said on Monday.

The man was arrested at Matabeleng in Kroondal on Sunday, said Captain Adele Myburgh.

The girlfriend, 25, had allegedly been on her way to report the man's abusive behaviour on March 3 when she he grabbed her and dragged her to his house.

"He gave her money and ordered her to buy him cigarettes on April 4 and she then managed to escape."

Myburgh said the man had allegedly raped the victim over this period.

"The victim reported the matter to the police, who arrested the suspect."

He was expected to appear in the Rustenburg Magistrate's Court soon on charges of kidnapping and rape.
