Cape Town - Lufthansa flights between South Africa and Germany have not been affected by the strike by 4 000 of the airline’s pilots, Lufthansa’s spokesperson Karin Duncker told News24 on Monday.

However, Duncker warned that "onward connection flights might be affected and short term cancellations are possible".

“Lufthansa is doing everything in its power to inform its customers as soon as possible, and offer them alternative travel options,” she said.

Duncker said that should a flight be cancelled, passengers can cancel their booking free of charge.

Associated Press reported that Lufthansa’s pilots are seeking increased job security and want German labour conditions to apply to Luftahnsa pilots hired abroad to prevent their jobs from migrating to neighbouring countries with cheaper conditions.
