SA braces for cold front

2011-06-22 14:47

Johannesburg - Winter will turn a notch colder at the end of the week, a Weather SA forecaster said on Wednesday.

"The communities in Gauteng should brace themselves for cold and windy conditions this coming Friday," said Puseletso Mofokeng.

A strong cold front would pass through the country on Thursday evening bringing "bitterly cold" conditions to Gauteng and the Free State.

There was a chance of snow on the mountains of neighbouring Lesotho, with snowfalls also possible in the Ukhahlamba Municipality, in the Eastern Cape, and on the western high mountains of the Western Cape.

This was expected to spread to Calvinia and Sutherland in the Northern Cape.

Mofokeng said seas would be "very rough" with wave heights of between four and six metres expected along the Cape coast.

  • Zakimi - 2011-06-22 15:08

Cummon LMAO, they're still people, where is your humanity??? No need to laugh at them for a reason like that. It's not their fault they're uneducated and don't realise how their government is screwing their interests.

  • Mercury01 - 2011-06-22 15:08

Can someone tell me how a weather report can turn into a political debate?please note that the stupid imature rascist comments are not the general feeling of the broader white population.*disgusted look*

      Totman - 2011-06-22 15:46

I also don't know, but "donderweer" comes to

      S knot - 2011-06-22 16:16

There was the warning that "die boere moet passop vir swart ryp", they thought it was Julius again after their woman. Then it was said there would be "areas met miskolle", people thought they were refering to the open toilet debacle and that folk would rather dump in the veld. Then the boere heard that there was a "hoëdruk sisteem in die binneland", and thought that it was pressure from government to reposes their land. I can see how some people could see it as racism. And just joking all you farmers, you are good guys! :)

      Matt - 2011-06-23 11:55

If Julius's apology just now was genuine, then that explains why it's gonna freeze

      daaivark - 2011-06-24 11:20

HEAR HEAR, Mercury. People just refuse to lock up the hobby-horse, even when there is absolutely no reason for it to be loose.

  • Sandy - 2011-06-22 15:11

I should have been born a bear. Get reeeaaaally fat just before winter starts. Then go to sleep the whole winter through and wake up beginning of summer all rested and skinny. Yip, definately should have been a bear.

      Matt - 2011-06-23 12:01

Jacob Zuma tried that idea but forgot to go to sleep

  • Cire - 2011-06-22 15:11

Eish! This global warming is really getting bad!

      Ingie - 2011-06-22 15:52

whats global warming got to do with it..its our winter idiot

      Vlakhaas1 - 2011-06-22 22:28

      Global warming, not cooling...

      Cire - 2011-06-23 10:58

@Inge. It was a joke and, in any case, even winters are supposed to be getting warmer - nitwit!

      daaivark - 2011-06-24 11:21

Ingie, and our winter is something completely sepratae from the rest of the world's climate is it? Go back to Grade2. Do not pass GO and definitely do not collect 200.

      Ernst - 2011-06-25 11:57

There is a difference between weather and climate you idiot. Just because its cold in one area doesnt mean it is not getting hotter globaly!

  • Nawe - 2011-06-22 15:18

@LMAO, You forgot to mention Helen Zille..

  • duits - 2011-06-22 15:26

Think it's time to invest in a pair of long johns and some vests. We have a piece where we have to walk to our offices and the wind is always howling between the buildings and cuts right through your bones.

      Totman - 2011-06-22 15:49

I will not say it loud, but those things works!!!! I also invested in some.

      Totman - 2011-06-22 15:51

I presume it is your time of the year to smile because in summer you suffocate in your own sweat.

      PSquare - 2011-06-22 16:11

      horsehair - 2011-06-22 16:31

      Matt - 2011-06-23 12:04

Rub it in Calvin... I miss Durbs!!! 36 degrees on a summer's day and could barely keep my eyes open from the sweat... but I loved it! I'm from Europe (not in JHB) and I absolutely hate the cold... in Durban, you put on a jumper when it's 20 degrees already... waahhh I wanna return :-(

What I like is that black people call South Africa theirs and that it is not for white people and yet they freeze their asses off when whites are comfortable. I think it is funny.

      Vlakhaas1 - 2011-06-22 22:37

This is the problem, some people like to improvise when something happen out of their control... Buy a gas heater or put in double layer glass, other people strike and burn down their neighbours houses to get warm...

      Matt - 2011-06-23 11:57

@ JR - what has race got to do with the weather you nut...

      Thembisile - 2011-06-23 13:12
