SA gets a fourth first lady

2012-04-20 20:34

Johannesburg - South Africa now has four first ladies with President Jacob Zuma's marriage to Bongi Ngema in a traditional ceremony at his home in Nkandla, KwaZulu-Natal on Friday, the presidency said.

"A wedding reception will be held this evening, and tomorrow [Saturday] there will be the 'umabo', where the bride showers the groom's family with gifts," spokesman Mac Maharaj said in a statement.

The couple, who have a seven-year-old son named Sinqumo, participated in the traditional ukugqumushela dance of celebration.

"The new Mrs Zuma had already been part of the spousal office machinery in terms of administrative support, so there will be no changes due to the wedding," Maharaj said.

This is Zuma's sixth wedding, and was attended by his other three wives Sizakele, Nompumelelo and Thobeka Zuma.

      Erich - 2012-04-21 11:46

Interesting terms these 'spousal office machinery' and 'administrative support'. I would love to read their job description. In the written part under the photograph elsewhere in News24 showing the president dancing (if that is what the 'baby elephant walk' type of dancing is called)in his leopard skin outfit and Jet Stores footwear (heavens forbit that this picture is ever published in civilised countries) it is mentioned that the heavyweight nephew (of Aurora fame) was also part of the presidential roadshow riding on a four-wheeled bike and making mockcharges to the press. Priceless!

  • Katlego - 2012-04-21 03:05

Mxn! Does the First Lady title apply in our case? Shouldn't we just call the Zuma Mammas?? So much for culture that allows multiple marriages and you want ruin a monogamous title!

      pisciotta - 2012-04-21 04:21

SICK and your government will eventually fall apart.

  • Gerald Jordaan - 2012-04-21 03:25

    WTF cares!! Yaaaaaaawn!!

      pisciotta - 2012-04-21 04:23

Decent people gives a F*ck. SA needs to wake up or it will go back to the bush. Then again, that is what democracy is all about. Give power to those in majority without regard for their intelligence to manage power. It will implode in a few years and others will come along to clean up the mess. Beautiful country in the hands of idiots.

  • pisciotta - 2012-04-21 04:17

In a true democracy, the Government is an expression of the majority of the people. If you don't like it - CHANGE IT!

  • Vusumzi Kiva - 2012-04-21 05:49

Nor wonder we being forced to pay for e-tolling, he was additional funding for his wives team, this guy really take SA citizens for granted. I will never waste my vote on such a man.

None of these women are Tswana, right? We just shouldn't get involved in this!

  • Fred - 2012-04-21 07:59

I see our dear president is wearing bright white "traditional" footwear in the photographs of his wedding dance. Is he wearing western undies too? What a joke this country has become. Now we need to pay to drive on existing roads that all of a sudden became toll roads. The didn't even invent the wheel. Blame the West for everything, but take and keep what you like first.

      Mbavhalelo - 2012-04-22 16:46

Those who say we have become a Joke in de world just because President Jacob Zuma keeps getting merried amaize me. Whose standards are dey using western or European or african. Why do we think things dat are done in africa are embarassing. Some of u hv 1 official wife but u cheat. Dont u think u are judgemental hypocrats. I do not support merrying more than 1 wife bt I hv no right 2 decide dat JZ should merry 1 wife cos I think he is embarassing de country. If we are realy matured can we realy insult de president and call him a cloun. Dont get me wrong I think poligamy is not right but der is no law against it even in de bible

  • Andrew - 2012-04-21 08:06

Wit due respect 2 da President

  • ArchAngel - 2012-04-21 08:19

Since When is POLYGAMY legal in your country??? I can find no reference to indicate that it is legal. If so, why is this man not arrested?

      Bless Boswell - 2012-04-21 11:31

Are these not traditional weddings - which in some cultures permit more than one wife? He is a Zulu, and they are permitted more than one. But, I am not sure how the law views this - are they all common law wives? Are they all entitled to inherit legally? As for the children - that's a dilemma I would not like to have, as some are born out of "wedlock" Zuma style - so who knows where to begin ... The point is raised about finding time to execute ALL duties (both marital and official) - marital: who can even try and venture a comment and official: he has an enormous support staff, all of whom assist him in "running the country".

  • Xulu.Thulany.Xaba - 2012-04-21 08:40

Yeah we know!!what's new about that?

  • Bibi - 2012-04-21 08:43

Zuma must be some kind of Superman - he is running a country, has four wives, 21 children, couple of lovers, dodging all kinds of allegations, keeping his co-conspirators happy, jet-setting in 2 planes, dealing with Malema etc. Somewhere something or somebody is losing out and me thinks it is our beloved country. And his children.

  • Elkita - 2012-04-21 08:44

Can't someone please take him out for good. His face has become the face of satan to me..What a low life things they all are.

  • TruetotheBlue - 2012-04-21 09:07

This is actually wife no.6. The first wife divorced him (sensible woman) and another committed suicide in 2000.

Can you imaging being married to somebody who can't keep it in his pants

Enjoy while it lasts Mr. president

  • yolandie.vanderberg - 2012-04-21 09:55

Most people can berely find the time and energy to keep 1 partner happy. How does a man who is apparently suppose to run a whole country have the time or energy for 4 wives, a fiance and who know how many girlfriends. And the best yet since non of them are legally registered as his customary wivesn taxpayers are paying for his \girlfriends\ to live the life of lucsury.

  • frank.hartry - 2012-04-21 10:23

The serial adulterer strikes again. Lock up your daughters. This old man Sugar Daddy Zuma will be on the prowl for more conquests after this weekend. He may be rather fat and ugly but he has a great deal of taxpayers wealth to attract the ladies.

      Tumzet - 2012-04-22 05:16

I mean as man we straggling 2 attend 1 wife, how cn he afford them in 1 nite.

      Shirley - 2012-04-22 16:50

We must just hope there is not another ''busines woman' that whats to get better deals. Where do you get educated women willing to share a man. The only thing in the Constitution that must be added is that One man or Woman must only marry once period

  • Wayne - 2012-04-21 11:01

WHERE THE HELL DOES THIS MAN GET THE TIME TO ATTEND TO 4 WIFES, 20 CHILDREN, FAMILY MEMBERS BUSINESS DEALS, AND STILL DO HIS JOB! GET RID OF THIS CLOWN!!!

  • Jacqui - 2012-04-21 11:05

  • Eve Shead - 2013-10-06 15:32

And yet again Comrade Zuma is the laughing stock of the world. Need we ask who will be paying for this wedding too? I love the bit about the new wife "showering the Zuma family with gifts"! Guess who paid for those gifts?? Certainly not the new wife or the rest of the Zuma clan. Truly his greed knows no bounds!

      Grant Montgomery - 2013-10-06 21:32

Sadly Eve the whole of South Africa has become a laughing stock as the people put Zuma into power. Also it is now known that international terrorists can buy genuine SA passports from home affairs.
