Cape Town - South Africans can expect some bitterly cold and wet weather for at least a little while longer.

The South African Weather Service warned that cold weather conditions would continue until the middle of the week, the Cape Times reported.

South Africa’s coldest area on Tuesday was going to be Underberg with -5°C.

Residents of the Eastern Cape and Free State were told to expect very cold temperatures and possible snowfall.

Snow reportedly fell on the Matroosberg Mountain near Ceres and in the Hex River valley on Sunday.

Gale-force winds were also forecast for Cape Town and Cape Agulhas on Tuesday, with very rough seas in the Western and Eastern Cape.

Tuesday would be wet and cold in Cape Town, said forecasters.
