SA man held in US for murders

2011-04-14 10:27

Cape Town - A South African man has been arrested in the US for two murders in the state of New Mexico, EWN reported on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Muziwokuthula Madonda, 33, is also the suspect in two other killings in Ohio State.

According to the Quay County Sun news website from the US, Madonda is charged for two open counts of murder and tampering with evidence for the shooting deaths of Gabriel Baca and Bobby Gonzales at the Tucumcari Inn in New Mexico on March 24.

He is also being investigated for two other deaths in February, one of whom is also a South African who knew Mandonda.

Those victims, the Quay County Sun reported, have been identified as Jackie Hider, a woman from Akron Ohio, and Zenzele Mdadane, who lived in New York but whose body was found in Butler Township in Ohio.

EWN reported that Madonda confessed to Hider’s killing.

According to an Ohio detective, Rick Edwards, a warrant was issued for Madonda’s arrest on the charges of aggravated murder, aggravated burglary and aggravated robbery.

An information request has also been sent to the Butler Township Police Department for a warrant affidavit regarding Mdadane’s homicide.

There were no additional details about Mdadane's death.

Should have stayed in SA, could have killed dozens before the cops were onto him here... although i suppose the pickings are easy there, they're not all living behind bars in Ohio. Is this when I say proudly South African?

      rudyada - 2011-04-14 11:35

  • leeupan - 2011-04-14 10:42

"aggravated murder"??? What is that, murder is murder, or not? Well murder is murder and he should be charged for it.

      GT - 2011-04-14 11:18

Aggravated means that either there was a hitman involved or there was kidnapping and torture. More serious than a fight gone wrong. It can also include the murder of a cop or official whilst preforming a duty.

      Thangy - 2011-04-14 14:24

@leeupan You pulled that one straight out of you a$$ didn't you! "aggravated murder" means murder as defined in ORS 163.115 which is committed under, or accompanied by, any of the following circumstances: (1)(a) The defendant committed the murder pursuant to an agreement that the defendant receive money or other thing of value for committing the murder. (b) The defendant solicited another to commit the murder and paid or agreed to pay the person money or other thing of value for committing the murder. (c) The defendant committed the murder after having been convicted previously in any jurisdiction of any homicide, the elements of which constitute the crime of murder as defined in ORS 163.115 or manslaughter in the first degree as defined in ORS 163.118. (d) There was more than one murder victim in the same criminal episode as defined in ORS 131.505. (e) The homicide occurred in the course of or as a result of intentional maiming or torture of the victim. (f) The victim of the intentional homicide was a person under the age of 14 years old.

      Snoopy88 - 2011-04-14 11:46

Not much of a market... Ohio currently has 155 inmates on death row. They don't f*ck around.

  • Palian - 2011-04-14 11:25

now the usa has a front row seat to the gruesome circus of aggravated murder, aggravated burglary and aggravated robbery we live in. usa may not condone a civil war here, but i think they will understand

      Brenton - 2011-04-14 11:47

Because of one South African? In the news in the US this week, 2 serial killers on the lose, a mother is convicted of unlawful imprisonment and murder of her daughter, her son is on trial for the rape, torture and sodomy of his sister. This is but two of the stories, but you think they now have a front row seat because of one wayward South African. Get a clue PALIAN.

  • Wise1 - 2011-04-14 11:31

Maybe the murders coincided with Malema's call to "kill the boer". Madonda is probably one of Malema's mindless followers.

  • Desertrat - 2011-04-14 11:32

Just goes to show! Need I say more! Savagery prevails!

  • Bettysue - 2011-04-14 11:36

Madonda had worked with Hilder's boyfriend, Victor Browne, on satellite TV contracts and learned through Browne that Jacquelyn was a bank executive. Akron police Lt. David Whiddon said Madonda thought he could get easy money. But, Lt. Whiddon said Madonda shot Hilder in the chest and abdomen and took off without any of Hilder's valuables. "She had offered to give him credit cards and debit cards, but he wanted cash and to our knowledge he didn't take anything from the house," Lt. Whiddon said. Lt. Whiddon said Madonda is very knowledgable about the Bible and proclaims to be a christian. "That's one of the reasons he said he came forward was to get straight with God," Lt. Whiddon said. But, Hilder's murder may have gone unsolved if Madonda had stopped killing, Lt. Whiddon said. Two days after Hilder was killed, Madonda allegedly shot 25-year-old Zenzele Mdadane near Dayton. On March 24, Madonda shot two men inside a motel in Tucumcari, New Mexico, investigators said. He was arrested three days later in Texas, where the self-proclaimed man of God came clean to all four murders, Lt. Whiddon said. "I don't know how you can be a man of God because that certainly isn't God's work," Thomas said. The suspect is expected to be extradited to New Mexico to face charges first. Lt. Whiddon said Madonda will eventually be brought back to Ohio to face aggravated murder, aggravated robbery and aggravated burglary charges. Whiddon said the Summit County prosecutor will decide whether to seek the death penatly. • 10111 - 2011-04-14 11:55

It used to be wine and fresh fruit but murderers are fast becoming one of our best exports. Plenty where that one came from.

  • Winston - 2011-04-14 12:01

Another reason why people from other countries see us South Africans as murdering neanderthals and we battle to visit other countries without them looking at us sideways because of pricks like this. Hope he gets the f%&*ing chair!

      philemon.daba - 2011-04-14 12:17

For the record, they do not see white South Africans in this way - to the older folks we're 'racists' to the younger generation we're 'arrogant', but the black South Africans they no longer see as victims - thats at least a good thing for us, not so much for them seeing as they are on the receiving end of certain type of people's savagery.

      Phiwe - 2011-04-14 12:19

I dont know where you go in the world but they dont look at me sideways. Maybe they look at you that way because of the history of our country ;) most know it all too well... And the reason we need visas for other countries is not because of our high murder rate, it's because 1) drug exports, 2) they fear that extremists muslims could use SA as a gateway to Western Countries (at least the UK does)

      KnysnaSha - 2011-04-14 12:46

Phiwe is right. South Africans are notorious for being involved in drug smuggling. Often SA is used as a stop over for drug smuggling.

      CvdH - 2011-04-14 13:16

@philemon: Have you ever stopped and try think WHY they "do not see white South Africans in this way"??? Makes you wonder hey?

CvdH, I know why! As do you, as do most who are truthful enough to admit it. But of course we can't say it deliberately because then we are 'rayceest'.
