SA ready for new traffic system

Johannesburg - Glitches in South Africa's upgraded transport information system will soon be something of the past, Transport Minister Jeff Radebe said on Tuesday.
He was launching the new electronic National Traffic Information System (eNaTIS).
The system makes provision for a central booking register and later this year will also allow motorists to renew their annual car licences online.
Radebe gave the system the "all clear" a day after several testing stations around the country failed to open and authorities in most provinces reported hiccups and constant technical failures.
"There is no reason that members of the public cannot go to the dedicated sites," he said.
Radebe said the system recorded over 21 000 transactions in the first hour since its launch.
