Cape Town - The South African surfer who disappeared off the coast of Indonesia has been discovered alive and well after drifting at sea without a life jacket for 27 hours.

Brett Archibald, from Cape Town, went missing during a surfing trip at the Mentawai Islands in Indonesia when he developed sea sickness. He disappeared overboard in rough seas 20 nautical miles from land.

After a massive search and rescue effort he was found drifting at sea by an Australian surf charter boat and crew.

After the rescue, Archibald recalled being extremely sick and may have passed out on the deck. When he woke up he was already behind the boat which continued away from him.
