Dubai - A South African woman, who was last seen being assaulted outside her home in Dubai, has been missing for 11 days, family members said on Monday.
Kerry Winter, 35, was last seen on August 20 when neighbours spotted her being shoved into the back of her car, her brother Kurt Winter told Sapa.
Winter and his son-in-law, David Giles, flew to Dubai to find Kerry after colleagues told them she could not be found.
Winter said police had taken a man into custody after two neighbours identified him as the man who assaulted his sister.
"He has been identified as the guy who struck her... he admitted to the assault but told us he drove out to the desert with her and then left her on the side of the road," said Winter.
"He told us she was coherent and fine when he left her."
Dubai police had taken the man out into the desert in order for him to identify the spot at which he had left her.
"They [the police] are trying to cover all angles... but it's come to nothing so far," Winter said.
Local media said Dubai police had confirmed the arrest of the man.
Giles said he had been in contact with the South African mission in Dubai for assistance.
"They are waiting to get a report."
The Consular General in Dubai could not be reached for comment on Monday.
