SABC clears political editor

Cape Town - The SABC is currently not considering any action against its political editor Abbey Makoe for his involvement in the Forum of Black Journalists (FBJ), the public broadcaster's chief executive Dali Mpofu said on Tuesday.
Briefing the national assembly committee on communication, Mpofu said he was not aware of any breaches of the public broadcaster policies committed by Makoe.
"Anyone with information that he has broken any rules of the SABC can forward that to us," he said.
The public broadcaster respected its employees' rights to be members of private organisations," he said.
Mpofu was responding to concerns raised by Democratic Alliance MP Dene Smuts, who suggested that Makoe, as political editor of the public broadcaster, had "crossed his professional line" by associating himself with an organisation that appears to harbour a racist agenda.
Meanwhile, the SA Human Rights Commission on Monday said it would hold a public forum on complaints of racial prejudice and the issue of exclusive organisations.
This stems from last Friday's controversial FBJ meeting addressed by ANC President Jacob Zuma in Johannesburg, where white journalist were barred from attending.
Makoe is the FBJ's steering committee chairperson.
