2012-04-10 16:13

Johannesburg - SABC head of news and current affairs Phil Molefe was placed on special leave on Tuesday, the public broadcaster said.

SABC spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago said Molefe was placed on special leave with immediate effect.

He declined to give the reasons for Molefe's special leave but said the matter was pending discussions between Molefe and chief executive Lulama Mokhobo.

Head of television news Jimi Matthews would fulfil Molefe's duties while he was away, Kganyago said.

Hope thiss not another "fully paid 2 year holiday" that seem to be a common occurance nowdays!

      Kala - 2012-04-10 16:30

That's exactly what it is. If he plays his cards right, the next 12 years might be a fully paid leave.

      Fazel - 2012-04-10 16:34

It should read Special "paid" leave

Of course it is. Is it to give uncle Phil a chance to "reroute" certain funds, before an investigation will reveal irregularities?

How many people can the public coffers fund while they are on "special leave" - Police Generals, Military Generals, Departmental Directors, Deputy Directors, School Headmasters, teachers, policemen, civil servants, all feeding at the trough of public money - this country needs to take a look at itself and find another way of dealing with miscreants instead of rewarding them with full benefits and pay while suspended or on so-called "special" leave. We need more teachers, nurses, policemen, and these grossly inflated salaries paid to senior officials who are "resting" could be used to far greater effect!

@ Tshililo - Bheki Cele is on paid leave plus benefits

Phil (hic!) Molefe denies (hic!) that his reputation as a formidable consumer of the (hic!) hard stuff has ANYTHING to do with his 2-day work-week, lack of concentration, outbursts to staff and any such malicious rumour mongering. It'shhall-a-lie. Now, wheresshhh my car keysh? Hic!

I heard this morning that it's now easier to fire/offload these fat cats ? The idiot government appoints these people with no thought of how they'll actually do the damn job - the appointee just smiles, signs and sits back and becomes a millionaire.

Brilliant!! This propaganda for Malema should have been silenced months back. well done Zuma! Slowly slowly Malema is dying into oblivion. It was so obvious that he had a friend in the newspapers pushing for him..no doubt for a buck. Now i call on all people and media to not read any Malema article or write any story about him. Then you will see this individual for what he is..just 1 arrogant man. Whenever he mentions WE..he actually means I.
