SABC urged to remove Motsepe from board

2012-04-13 14:35

Polokwane - The SACP has called on the SABC board to withdraw the membership of Limpopo MEC for co-operative governance and traditional affairs Clifford Motsepe.

The SA Communist Party said on Thursday night that Motsepe no longer qualified to be a board member because he was a politician.

"The SABC is supposed to be a political body [in which] no politicians should sit. There is one MEC from this province who is sitting on the SABC board and that is illegal, and SABC must remove that member who is also a member of ANC Youth League," said SACP provincial secretary Gilbert Kganyago.

He was addressing members of the Young Communist League during a Chris Hani memorial lecture at the University of Limpopo.

The party's calls follow the announcement that the SABC's head of news and current affairs, Phil Molefe, has been placed on special leave.

I agree with Cde Gilbert, remove the Malema puppet with immediate effect or suffer the consequences.

1 will sooner or later understand why the SABC is surely losing popularity with the society on the grassroot level. It claims to be independent, a public broadcaster and has a mandate to satisfy and inform the society. On the other hand 1 notices the political intereference it suffers from, especially from the ruling party. It doesn't mind broadcasting some conferences of the ruling party for hours. When it has suffered a deficit it it's financial results, it doesn't mind requesting a boost from the government. Now it's this hot debate about a member of it's board. Shame on this 'public' broadcastor. I as an ordinary South African have heard enough of the SABC and it's problems. For all I know it can go somewhere.

Anyway everyone, according to News24 the SABC 'is supposed to be a political body'. Thanks for that but I think most of us already suspected that unpalatable truth.

Why remove him when it will only mean another ten million or so Rand in severance pay and retirement benefits????? Which we will have to pay!
