SABS official granted bail

Johannesburg - A testing officer at the SA Bureau of Standards, accused of corruption, appeared in the Polokwane Magistrate's Court on Wednesday, police said.

Lieutenant Colonel Mohale Ramatseba said Tshepo Mnisi, 32, was granted R1 000 bail and was expected to appear again on February 15.

Mnisi was arrested by the Hawks in Limpopo on Friday. He allegedly demanded R15 000 from a businessman who wanted to certify that chairs, fitted onto a truck converted for game viewing, complied with the SABS.

Ramatseba said Mnisi called the businessman and told him his application had failed but if he paid him the money he would issue him with the certificate.

The businessman contacted the Hawks and Mnisi was arrested after allegedly accepting R12 000.
