Sars Mt Edgecombe burning

2012-02-11 19:51

Cape Town - Several News24 users are reporting that the South African Revenue Service office building in Mt Edgecomb in the Umhlanga area is on fire.

All roads leading to the building have been blocked off.

The Umhlanga fire services responded just after 17:00 and have managed to bring the fire under control. The units are still on the scene according to the control room, busy mopping up.

There are no reported injuries.

It would appear that the top floor has been gutted.

It's Blake and CCI, next to SARS

  • Adam - 2012-02-11 20:20

Maybe destroying evidence of tenders given to family members..

      John - 2012-02-11 22:27

Adam, This is too complicated. Are you familiar that anything that doesn't require a capital expenditure it doesn't go to tender? Please stop dreaming about tenders and in which hands they went to. Tenders are just the top of the iceberg. Iceberg - not in Mpumalanga but a large floating mass of ice detached from a glacier or ice sheet and carried out to sea. The mf that killed Titanic. (This is for Kgomotso)

It's definitely the Blake building. I work there.. how silly rumours spread just cos SARS is in the vicinity!!

      comurray - 2012-02-12 15:28

You are so lucky, you will get maybe a weeks leave while they clean up the place.

It is the same building that houses SARS Tanya - it just so happens that most of the damage was on the top floor which is not where SARS is but no doubt SARS would have suffered water and smoke damage to their premises on the ground floor as well.

Quite a few recent 'government office' fires were intentional. To 'remove' certain documents.

      Yar - 2012-02-11 23:34

@Adrian A lot of Govt buildings go up in flames. Their fire safety sucks. Gauteng Dept of Agriculture have done it twice in 3 years.

Hey you all, read the article just posted on "SARS conned out of millions" - i'm sure this ijs arson by no doubt! A group of nine to appear in court due to fraudulently claiming upto an extra 25%on client's claims. Even the manager is involved apparently! This is to cover their tracks/evidence I am sure! This ius going to be big news!

      allison.steedman - 2012-02-13 12:13

so if it was aimed at SARS why was the fire not on the ground floor where SARS is situated? The top floor is Blake & Associates - a debt collecting call center - fire most likely caused by an agent who was smoking and threw a burning stompie into a waste bin.

i suppose all the documentation relating to Malema was kept there.

  • Kim - 2012-02-12 08:53

That fire would be far more use up in Gauteng. I am sure the ANC would agree. In fact Malema would provide the matches and fuel.

How does one achieve that? Your tax is deducted from your salary long before you receive what is left over.
