Johannesburg - Eastern Cape department of health staff have reported a medical aid and insurance scam with amounts being deducted from their salaries without authorisation.
Department spokesperson Sizwe Kupelo said about 25 employees had complained that their salaries showed their medical aid had been cancelled and replaced with others.
"This was without their knowledge and consent," he said.
The scam affects staff in Mzimkhulu and Mt Fletcher and the companies mentioned include African Life, Resolution, Assupol, General Health and Fed Health.
Kupelo added that they had reported some insurance companies were illegally deducting between R200 and R550 a month from their salaries.
"The total deductions amount to about R16 000," he said.
