Sandton python still missing

2012-03-30 15:59

Johannesburg - The owner of Lavender Albino Reticulated Pythons was still searching for one of them in Gallo Manor, Sandton, on Friday afternoon.

"With this weather there is very little chance of finding him because he's cold and he won't come out," Angi Latimer said, referring to the overcast and rainy conditions in Johannesburg.

The snake, named Gabbana and another snake, Dolce, escaped from her home in Tugela Crescent on Wednesday after they climbed up the burglar bars and pushed down on a door handle.

Dolce was found in the pool pump at her home on Thursday.

"I've got one back, I'm so happy; last night they [her other pythons] were all entwined and cuddled and then you have one missing," she said.

Latimer stressed that the snake was harmless as it had been hand reared since it was a baby and it was also not venomous.

She also said that it was unlikely that the snake would catch anyone off guard.

"It's 3.5m long and purple and yellow. It's not going to blend into the green grass or a tree," she said.

The creature must be taken back to the jungle where it belongs or else snake park, it needs to be FREE....please people lets FREE wild animals.....

      JasonMichelleVanderbijlpark - 2012-03-31 09:53

It is not a wild animal, it has been bread and raised in captivity. It is a pet, just like the dog or cat you own!

      Angi - 2012-04-01 20:50

it will die if it is set free - it has been hand reared - it cant even hunt for food. its like putting you in the arctic without clothes and expecting you to live and hunt food

Hint! If your small pet has disappeared, be aware!

      Angi - 2012-04-01 20:52

it only eats rats so small pets have not been the preferred food of choice since birth. however by some of the ignorant comments I wished they did eat people - who needs ignorance at such a high level

  • Mable - 2012-03-30 20:41

jeez, how many pythons do u have lady?

      Angi - 2012-04-01 20:54

more than a few and thank you for the respect in calling me a lady

  • leandre.veldman - 2012-03-30 20:49

Doesn't this woman realise that these animals want to be free. Y wud they escape in the 1st place.

      Angi - 2012-04-01 20:58

these animals will probably become extent due to human's invasion on their territory. They are also unable to camouflage themselves and hence the reason for them being prey to most animals in the jungle including Super tiger retics - which actually eat other snakes. so where is the wild for you _ for me its right here living in Sandton and seeing all the rubbish people write when they actually know not much about the snake anyway.
