Cape Town - A 23-year-old man of Ottery near Cape Town is expected to appear in court soon in connection with the death of eight-year-old Sasha-Leigh Crook.
The girl's body was found by members of a neighbourhood watch search party on a field in Pelican Heights, near Strandfontein, on Monday morning.
She vanished from her grandparents' home in Ottery on July 6 while waiting to be taken to a party.
She was found fully clothed and lying on her right side.
The skin on parts of the left side of her face appeared to have been stripped away and it appeared she had a gash near her throat.
Police spokesperson Superintendent Nina Kirsten said the suspect, who lived close to Sasha-Leigh's grandparents, had been arrested at his home late on Monday night.
Acting Western Cape police commissioner Andre Pruis said no stone had been left unturned in the investigation. He said the probe was continuing.
