Durban - An elderly couple were threatened with death by a “satanic” intruder wielding a garden fork during a brutal home invasion.

The couple were bound in their Pinetown home on Wednesday while two housebreakers threatened to execute them along with their Jack Russell, Whizzy.

They requested anonymity for fear that their attackers may return.

The four-pronged weapon, plucked from the garage, was held to their chests as robbers ransacked their home.

The two have lived in their house for 55 years and had never been affected by crime.

In an interview with The Witness, the 81-year-old grandmother recounted “the most terrifying day” of her life.

“The Satanist threatened me with the fork - he told me to sit down or he would kill me. He pushed the fork into my face. I felt like at any moment he was going to plunge it into my face - I was really afraid. It was the most traumatic experience of my life,” she said.

“I get a bit teary whenever I think about it - I remember everything so vividly,” she said, her hand shaking as she covered her mouth.

“It was just before 14:00 when we were setting off to fetch our grandchildren from school and we had locked up the whole house. I was waiting at the kitchen door for my husband to come out when they pushed our gardener through the door right into me.

“They shouted at us all to sit down, one of them had a gun and the other was waving around a pitchfork which he had picked up from the garage,” she said.

“The one with the fork told me that I must do what he said because he was a Satanist and was not afraid to kill me... he used some horrible words after he pushed me into a chair. The one with the gun pushed my husband down next to me.”

Threatened dog

The woman told of how the attackers threatened to kill their dog.

“She was barking at them and they said unless I stopped her they would kill her. I grabbed her and put her on my lap and tried to hold her mouth closed - then they tied up my husband and our gardener with cable ties,” she said.

The two escaped with the couple’s car and valuables ranging from electronic goods to cash and jewellery.

Police spokesperson Colonel Jay Naicker said that detectives were investigating the case, but no arrests have been made.
