Schabir Shaik arrested - reports

2011-03-14 13:02

Cape Town - Convicted fraudster Schabir Shaik has been re-arrested, according to news reports.

Eyewitness News reported on Monday that the Correctional Services Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula had confirmed Shaik had been arrested.

"He was re-arrested. Correctional services officers went and picked him up from his house. He's now at Westville," she was quoted as saying.

Shaik was in the news over the weekend after allegedly assaulting a man outside a mosque in Durban on Friday.

He was released on medical parole in 2009 after being convicted of fraud and corruption and jailed for 15 years.

More to follow.

    Shaik can't think properly.

      MM - 2011-03-14 13:18

      thats an understatement

      MactheKnife - 2011-03-14 13:36

He is stupid, had the opportunity to redeem himself but now it looks like jailhouse rock.

      Ron - 2011-03-14 13:49

Typical... give my pinkie and take my arm, what is Zuma gonna do now...

      Benny66 - 2011-03-14 14:18

@ Ron. He will find a way. He always does. Not that his reasons and logic will make any sense. It never does!

      Dog Poo - 2011-03-14 14:27

This guy thinks he is above law *maybe for a reason*, he needs to learn a vital lesson as not to defacate on the benovelence of parole officials, now let the birdy sing his tune "Zuma-Zuma release me or else I will tell all"

      Henryford - 2011-03-14 14:34

Stupidity can kill , hence the medical parole

      Shistirrer - 2011-03-14 14:39

ROTFL!!! This time Shabir is well and truly screwed! Zuma does not need him anymore, he's got the Gupta's now!

      Afrikopite - 2011-03-14 15:16

Once again, Justice system will be raped.

      amos - 2011-03-14 15:46

Do not forget that Sheik paid Zuma from his pocket. The S A taxpayer did not loose a cent. We have so many politicians and their cronies running loose after defrauding the taxpayer for thousands to millions of rand. Have we reached the status of a banana republic ? .

      Jayjay001 - 2011-03-14 18:09

      Schabir Shaik for president!! Whoohoo!

  • DW - 2011-03-14 13:06

At last! But will he stay in jail this time? Lets see if the ANC will keep him there now, even if just to win votes....

      hf44083 - 2011-03-14 13:15

Hardly likely to spend time there, unless in hospital again at medical aid's expense.

      scorpio - 2011-03-14 13:16

I think he has turned out to be an embarrasment, because he has made a mockery of the justice system. I would be very suprised if he does not go into jail this time. Good riddance to bad rubbish. Hopefully he gets reamed - that's what he deserves.

      Podgette - 2011-03-14 13:39

He may just have to stay there... just til after the elections!

      Carmaine Harrison - 2011-03-14 14:57

I'm sorry?!?!?!? What does Islam have to do with this???

  • shylady777 - 2011-03-14 13:07

do you really think this time he will stay?

      scorpio - 2011-03-14 13:12

They say the wheel turns - hopefully that turns out to be true in this case

      hf44083 - 2011-03-14 13:47

No anybody who thinks he will stay in a prison cell for a minute is plain stupid and naive. He would not have been let out in the first place if justice was fair and equal to all.

      Valis - 2011-03-14 14:06

He'll be let out the day after the elections.

      Limpopoist - 2011-03-14 15:38

Yes ,I think he will stayin jail,Zuma have Guptas who will advise him properly and they dont have scandal becos they are also friend to Helen Zille too..No more problem ,together (with Zille ) they do much more better "DAMAGE"

  • Siener2 - 2011-03-14 13:09

Please treat him with the utmost care - he is after all extremely weak and frail... ;-)

      scorpio - 2011-03-14 13:11

Hopefully, this time they don't buy this bullshit, and jail him in a over populated prison.

      SayWhat? - 2011-03-14 13:23

Well, at least he can still vote while in prison..

  • paulf - 2011-03-14 13:10

I hope they keeping the cell next to him for Zuma who also belongs behind bars.

      louwhan - 2011-03-14 13:43

@Homer - So, Schaibir can become his 17th wife:)

      allie - 2011-03-14 14:00

It`s a precaution. They will keep him busy until after the election, incase he says something wrong.

      KaiinSA - 2011-03-14 14:16

He'll be fine if there are showers in the cells

  • Tchaik - 2011-03-14 13:11

Should have read... Schabir Shaik shackled...

  • Charlene - 2011-03-14 13:13

  • matla - 2011-03-14 13:13

    Good work from the ANC

      gizzy - 2011-03-14 13:23

Do I detect an election coming? Ummmm..... - 2011-03-14 13:36

You are really a Joker right. can see the tong in cheeck humor in it. hahaha

      Richie - 2011-03-14 13:59

Wha-ha-ha... you're so funny biatch! If it was not the for him having secrets of your herder boy and rapist... he would have been in jail. Looong time ago.

      Paul - 2011-03-14 14:02

This has got nothing to do with the ANC. They were the reason why he was let out early as "payment" from Zuma. Don't fool yourself. This is nothing more than a ploy to create a perception of being tough on crime. Looks good on an election poster nothing more! After the election he will be out if not sooner. ANY BETS!!! HE WILL STAY THERE... 100 - 1 he will be out in no time!!!

      allie - 2011-03-14 14:02

      The Patriot - 2011-03-14 14:34

Matla, they fooled you already. Go post your vote.

  • Jo - 2011-03-14 13:14

it's a start, now let's see what gets done about that out of control police unit that beats up restaurant and club patrons in Melville, Jeppe and Hillbrow...

  • leigh.ridgway - 2011-03-14 13:14

Brilliant! This guy's arrogance has finally landed him back where he belongs. It was only a matter of time folks. You know what they say; "A fox always smells his own burrow". Looks to me like Shaik sniffed out his prison cell, hope it becomes his permanent home....time will tell.

  • Andy49 - 2011-03-14 13:14

Any bets that he will again be a free man by this evening, his terminal illness will kick in as soon as he enters the cells in the police station.

      Baboon sheperd - 2011-03-14 13:31

I agree with you Andy. A state of the art private hospital is gettig ready to welcome him this afternoon.

      David - 2011-03-14 14:23

Agreed Andy. With brother Mo being one of JZ’s buddies and in the government, won’t be long before he is back on the golf course & smoking cigars

      Andy49 - 2011-03-14 20:39

sorry folks guess I got that one wrong. Perhaps he enjoys his new cell more than his own home, time away from the missus.

  • GrimReaper10 - 2011-03-14 13:14

LOL. Terminal ill patient attacking people on golf course and in front of a mosque!

  • bill - 2011-03-14 13:15

Its either death or mama in cell 15 this time you arrogant little creep.

  • As-it-is - 2011-03-14 13:15

No way can you belive this guy? for a terminally ill person he's been slapping around a lot of people recently!

      Adrian - 2011-03-14 13:20

Pity he hasn't slapped someone who'll not only slap him back , but give him a good hiding at the same time. But i suppose he only picks on women reporters.

  • Perfume - 2011-03-14 13:15

Time to bend for soap!!!!!!!! What excuse will Shady have this time, he has violated parole over and over again!!!!!

      mandiviwenam - 2011-03-14 13:27

i hope the soap will be extra slippery making it even more difficult 2 pick up..

      Etienne - 2011-03-14 15:34

use powdered soap - a bitch to pick up ....

  • GV - 2011-03-14 13:15

Now he's had it!!!!! Nudge Nudge, Wink Wink

      Shistirrer - 2011-03-14 14:41

Nope, he's gonna get it :-)

  • cosmic_99 - 2011-03-14 13:15

didn't this fraudster just attack a reporter while he was playing golf? i think he has fully recovered from his terminal illness: can he get around the golf course, attack a reporter, and assault a man outside a mosque. handcuff him and make him do his time behind bars.....

  • Susannomore - 2011-03-14 13:16

Poor thing is so sick. He cannot be held acccountable, must be the medication. You only have to look at him to see how ill he is. Doctors must have recommended lots of exercise, which is why he hangs out at golf clubs. Then he has to take in lots of liquid which is why he goes to parties and coffee shops...

      jwill - 2011-03-14 13:23

I don't think ANY doctor will willingly recommend golf to a person "allegedly suffering" from's one of the most stress-proned sports around.

  • Sword&Cross - 2011-03-14 13:16

    NEXT, a zuma?

      gizzy - 2011-03-14 13:26

Matla, swords is in hell. He's not ANC so he must be in hell.

      DeonL - 2011-03-14 13:32

He might have been talking about another Zuma, or not?

      Sword&Cross - 2011-03-14 13:38

Relax gizzy, it's most likely some indian about to miss out on another heinous contract that will bankrupt the nation on behalf of some little zuma's.

      Rocky - 2011-03-14 13:39

@Matla-- You cannot be so blind or stupid to believe that Zuma was not and possibly is still corrupt... Not possible that the man paying the bribe gets time but the man accepting such is made president. WAKE UP NUMNUT

      Mannie777 - 2011-03-14 14:08

@Matla - a little sensitive, arent we? Your comment says a lot about you.

      Other Justin - 2011-03-14 14:30

@matla, shame dude, truth hurts huh?

      The Patriot - 2011-03-14 14:42

Sheik fail, Zuma has found another beneficiary in the Gupta's. No need for Sheik's rattle and roll.

  • Justin - 2011-03-14 13:16

He will be out within 15 minutes -

  • WhoGivesAshi - 2011-03-14 13:16

I hope he rots in jail.

  • SAFFA-CAT - 2011-03-14 13:17

Will he survive the night in tjoekie considering he seems to become GRAVELY ill and about to peg everytime he gets banged up "inside"...hehehehehe, convicted fraudster & gravely ill award winning actor....

  • Kirsty - 2011-03-14 13:18

  • ET - 2011-03-14 13:18

    about blooodddyyy time

  • Dee Trevor - 2011-03-14 13:19

Its about time that this dumb-ass fraudster goes back to jail where he belongs.

  • contact1980 - 2011-03-14 13:20

Just be careful, his blood pressure may just go through the roof again, because he can't play any more gholf and assault people (being so seriously ill and all...)

  • jwill - 2011-03-14 13:20

His terminal illness will return the moment he goes back to jail. His hypertension is probably from the lack of backbone to deal with the consequences of his own actions. Instead of granting him parole, they should have given him counselling to learn how to deal with life in jail.

  • arjenf - 2011-03-14 13:20

I didn't know you can be arrested when in jail -- oh of course, no jail necessary after convictions here.

  • rix.wallace - 2011-03-14 13:21

ahhhh... it's all just been taken "out of context" shaik, rattle and roll

  • Donovan - 2011-03-14 13:22

Hell yeah, why must he get special treatment??? He should never have been given parole in the first place.... we all pay our taxes and follow the law but let one of us do something wrong.... what then???? This country doesnt care a s--t about being fair or about its people.....

  • SayWhat? - 2011-03-14 13:22

Assault someone after being released on medical parole??

      As-it-is - 2011-03-14 13:41

Not 1 but 2 peolple in the space of 2 weeks... At this rate they should just make him Minister of Correctional Services

  • Paul - 2011-03-14 13:24

Assaulting a man outside a mosque in Durban on Friday??? Did he then go into the mosque and say his prayers and ask for forgivness for the assault? Knowing our police/prison services they will take him home before supper time and apologise at the same time

      jacques47 - 2011-03-14 14:25

ja but he will just go back next week and ask for forgiveness for last week

  • ChiefN - 2011-03-14 13:25

  • peterpanmali - 2011-03-14 13:25

He'll be out soon - Zuma cannot afford for Shaik to start singing like a sick birdie.

Spot on, two much at stake, he's got the other thief (JZ) by the balls.

  • CVDL - 2011-03-14 13:31

Shaik knows too much about too many in the ANC. They are now racking their collective few braincells on how to keep him happy and out of jail..... Or he had to become really terminally ill. Like in a really quick terminal illness. Before he starts talking.

      jillgabrielahenning - 2011-03-14 13:47

I think terminal is the word as in terminate

      DW - 2011-03-14 14:45

Want to bet that he will suddenly develop critical hypertension and end up in jail hospital until April 19 whereafter he will get the presidential pardon he has been waiting for.
