Johannesburg - A Pretoria schoolboy was killed and another critically injured when their motorcycle hit a bus in Waverley on Thursday, paramedics said.

"The force of impact saw both boys, thought to be in their late teens, thrown from the motorcycle," Netcare 911 spokesperson Jeffrey Wicks said.

"The bus then passed over them."

The injured teenager was taken to hospital. The cause of the accident was unknown.

I passed the accident scene in Meyer str this PM. Can't say for sure, but the buses usually emerge from a bus pick-up zone paralel to the street, sometimes pushing in front of traffic. It was raining at the time as well. Lot of close calls there allready as it is a major route for school kids. Please drive your bikes carefully and 4 wheeled drivers: please remember there are kids on bikes and bicycles on the road here!!!!! Condolences to the family and prayers of recovery for the injured boy.

OMG!!!! there poor families!!! But sadly its amazing how many car drivers are impatient with Bike riders when the roads are wet. Roads are wet and slippery and two wheels slip more than four, so dont hoot or bully them, just go around them and be nice... I'm a bike rider and in yesterdays rain I was bullied by an Indian Woman in Sunninghill, hooting at me as I went around a corner at a slower pace than she liked. I was practising safety first, she on the other hand wasnt!!! PARUSHKA GP!!! I will ensure you never bully another road user again!!!!

sooo tragic.. to lose a son, a friend, a brother, a cousin. but accidents happen and its true, drivers are very impatient with bikes, more so in the rain. my condolences to his family, may his soul rest in peace and i wish the other teenager a sppedy recovery. May God be with the families during this time.

Melissa - accidents don't happen ever - they are caused. Impatience was probably the cause of this tragedy. Sympathies to both families and wishes for a speedy recovery of the injured lad.

    so sad :(

This soooo sad... The way many South Africans drive makes our roads incredibly dangerous. I for one would never buy my child a motorcycle - large or small. There is a matric boy who drives his 650cc bike down our cul de sac in Pta East as if it is his own private race course - if he drives like this here, I shudder to think what speeds he drives at on the the bigger roads. Even so, bus (and other) drivers are equally reckless, and we have another tragic road death... Rest in Peace, young man.

This is so sad. There is no greater tragedy than a parent outliving their children. My heart goes out to the grieving family. I can't see myself buying my kids bikes to go too school, although I thought about it. I would not be able to live with myself if something had to happen to them.

Read the Beeld report - far more informative although I did think the pictures were a bit uncalled for. Don't know why News24 even bothered to do this report.

My condolences to the family and friends of these boys! This is really horrible! My sister was killed by a drunken driver, on her bicycle, on Robert broom in 2010...
