Search continues for missing angler
Johannesburg - The search continued for a 51-year-old Cape Town man on Sunday after he was swept into the sea while fishing near Strandfontein on the False Bay coast, the National Sea Rescue Institute said.
Spokesperson Craig Lambinon said: "This is now an ongoing search operation that will continue at intermittent intervals taking into account tides and sea conditions."
Divers could not take part in the search because of the rough seas, but shore and sea patrols would continue.
Divers would be used when conditions improved, said Lambinon.
The man who was fishing with two others, thought to be his nephews, was swept off the rocks at Monwabisi, said Clint Abrahams, NSRI Strandfontein deputy station commander.
A helicopter joined the search at first light.
"No sign of the missing angler has been found and he is presumed to have drowned," Abrahams said.
Police have opened an inquest docket.
