Johannesburg - There was still no sign of the 58-year-old woman reported to have gone missing from a yacht six nautical miles off-shore of the Tugela River mouth in KwaZulu-Natal.

"There's no change [in the situation]," National Sea Rescue Institute spokesperson Craig Lambinon said on Saturday.

The search for her would continue on Saturday morning.

A sea rescue craft was launched at 06:00 to be in the area by sunrise.

Rescue operations were abandoned on Friday as it got dark.

The woman, originally from Johannesburg, had been travelling with her husband. The couple had sailed from Durban on Thursday and were heading for Madagascar.

On Friday, Lambinon said the woman's husband had raised the alarm.

He reported that he had been asleep and when he woke up his wife was missing off the yacht.

The yacht had since been anchored and the woman's husband, who is originally from the United Kingdom, would again join the search party on Saturday morning.
