Johannesburg - A second man was arrested on Tuesday in
connection with the killing of a Ventersdorp farmer, North West police said.
The two men, 21 and 22-years-old, were expected to appear
in the town's Magistrate's Court on Wednesday, said police spokesperson Thulani
Ngubane.
A third man, who was not involved in the crime, was
questioned by police.
"Police have arrested the second suspect who was
linked to the murder, attempted murder and house robbery that happened on
Sunday at Sterkstroom outside Ventersdorp," said Ngubane.
"The 21-year-old was arrested today, 19 March
[Tuesday], around 09:15, in Extension Five in Khuma township near Klerksdorp,
while hiding at his aunt's house."
Ventersdorp police tracked down the 21-year-old and asked
Khuma police for assistance.
The 22-year-old man, who lived close to the farm, was
arrested on Sunday night around 23:00 after a tip-off.
He was allegedly seen with stolen items and found in
possession of three firearms, a digital camera and knives, all of which were
confiscated by police.
The 67-year-old farmer was attacked outside his farmhouse
on Sunday morning.
He was struck over the head and dragged into the house.
The attackers then found his 64-year-old wife and
attacked her.
It was believed they also raped her.
The men tied her up and fled with two cellphones.
She managed to free herself and found help on a
neighbouring farm.
The farmer died on the scene.
His wife was recovering in hospital in Klerksdorp.
