Secretary gets away with it

Bisho - The secretary of an assistant police commissioner got off scot-free after taking her boss's official vehicle for a joyride, without permission, only days after getting her driver's licence.
Commissioner Dimo Moraba testified at Unathi Nangcopywa's disciplinary hearing that she was a diligent and reliable employee. His testimony convinced the disciplinary committee to let her off with a written warning.
Nangcopywa managed to smuggle the vehicle from the premises on December 14 last year and only returned it three days later. She apparently put nearly 1 000 km on the clock during this time.
On December 24, she tried to take the car on another joyride, but was caught in the act by security guards.
Nangcopywa had worked at the department for four months and was still under probation when she committed the offences.
Clerks who commit serious offences in their probation period are normally fired, a source says.
