Security firm owner held for illegal guns
Johannesburg - An owner of a security company was arrested after several illegal firearms were found at his home in Phokeng, North West police said on Saturday.
"Police found seven firearms, which includes five pistols, a shotgun and an unlicensed R4 rifle," Brigadier Thulani Ngubane said.
"Two of the firearms' serial numbers had been scratched off."
The man was arrested at his home on Friday.
Ngubane said the R4 rifle was linked to a crime case in Eastern Cape in 1995.
Police also confiscated ammunition, including a smoke grenade, 13 hollow point bullets and police earmuffs.
The man faces charges of contravening the SA Firearms Control Act, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition and negligent handling of firearms.
He will appear in the Bafokeng Magistrate's Court on Monday.
