Serial rapist now drugs girls

2003-09-26 08:47
line

Johannesburg - The latest trick of the serial rapist operating in Gauteng is to give his young victims the so-called rape drug, Rohypnol.

He gave his latest victim, a 14-year-old, this schedule 7 sleeping pill before he tied her to a chair in an abandoned building decorated with gruesome photographs of maimed, bloody and dead girls.

Sergeant Deon Pieterse says this gruesome scene is extremely worrying. He says police suspect the man may have maimed and murdered all the girls in the photographs.

Some parts of the girls' sex organs have apparently been cut out.

Pieterse says: "These aren't police or mortuary photographs. They were taken privately. The possibility exists that the man may be a serial killer."

The man's latest victim was tied to the chair for 16 hours in an abandoned room on the Bredell smallholdings in the East Rand before the man raped her.

He kidnapped her about 07:00 in Northmead, Benoni, on Friday last week, but raped her late that night.

She was driven to Northmead about 12:30 the next day and abandoned.

Seems to be getting more aggtressive

The girl says she was raped once only. Doctor Anan Chetty, member of the Medical Association, says it's possible that the girl was raped more than once, but can't remember because of the drug she was given.

Chetty says Rohypnol can put someone to sleep for eight hours and can cause memory loss.

Pieterse says the rapist is becoming more aggressive with his victims.

He kidnapped his first two victims, raped them in his red Corsa bakkie and dropped them an hour later.

The latest victim was kept for about 24 hours and she suffered much more.

"We expect that the next victim may be assaulted, maimed or even killed."

Pieterse says the police are hot on the heels of the serial rapist: "It's only a matter of time before we arrest him."

The serial killer started his spree on June 24 when he stopped next to a 16-year-old girl and forced her into his bakkie after she refused to get in.

He followed the same pattern on September 17 and September 19 when he kidnapped a 12-year-old and a 14-year-old.

Most of girls in pictures were blonde

After he kidnapped them, he took them to the Bredell smallholdings where he raped them.

All his victims and most of the girls covered in blood on the photographs were blonde.

The man is aged between 24 and 35 and has short, dark blond hair. He stands about 1.7m, has a gold earring in his right ear and has a scar above his left knee.

He speaks Afrikaans and English fluently.
