Service delivery to be assessed

Johannesburg - Members of the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) will visit provinces next week to focus on service delivery challenges, the council said on Saturday.
Spokesperson Nolizwi Magwagwa said the visit begins on Monday and ends on Friday.
Members will follow up on issues raised during this year's first provincial week in May, with a view to assess progress concerning the delivery of services.
"Members would meet with various role-players, members of the provincial legislature, provincial executives and representatives of local government.
"The visit will provide a platform for a briefing and reflection on key service delivery issues relating to each province," she said.
Feedback provided
In May this year the NCOP undertook an oversight visit to their respective provinces in a bid to interact with provincial leadership and communities.
Next week's visit would focus on issues that were raised in previous interactions.
Feedback from the follow-up visits would be shared with communities during various public meetings attended by MECs and MPLs, on Wednesday and Thursday.
The issues raised during the week would thereafter be tabled before the NCOP for processing and follow-ups.
Magwagwa said the Provincial Week was established in line with the provision of the Constitution.
"It provides a forum for the exchange and sharing of ideas on progress that has been made around service delivery issues, and challenges confronting the provinces in fulfilling their mandates."
