Sewage leaks into Joburg licence centre

2011-02-10 14:36
Johannesburg - The booking system for drivers' and learners' licences at Langlaagte testing centre was shut down on Thursday after sewage leaked into the offices, said Johannesburg metro police.

"There was a problem with the sewerage system [on Wednesday] and all the bad stuff started leaking into the offices," said spokesperson Edna Mamonyane.

"Plumbers were called in and worked until 10:30 this morning, but when the staff walked back into the office, they discovered that the system used to book and renew drivers' licences was down."

She said people waiting in queues at the centre were very frustrated, but that the situation had been explained to them.

She hoped the system would be up and running again "shortly".
