Pretoria - Police have arrested a man who tried to hijack a truck carrying 250 sheep carcasses.
Captain Piletji Sebola said the two men forced the delivery truck to stop on the Garsfontein-Welbekend road towards Johannesburg on Thursday.
They tied up the truck driver and his crew at gunpoint and left them in nearby bushes.
As the hijackers tried in vain to start the truck, the owner of the abbatoir from where the meat was transported arrived. The two would-be hijackers fled.
Police launched a manhunt and making use of the air wing, arrested one of the suspects. The other one was still on the run, Sebola said, and police were still searching for him.
The truck with the carcasses, worth more than R125 000 were on the way to City Deep in Johannesburg.
