Johannesburg - This year's Arrive Alive ''light campaign'' was officially launched on Monday after a convoy of vehicles - all with headlights blazing - drove from the Kyalami Race Course in Midrand to Pretoria.
Even Minister of Transport Dullah Omar took part, on a Harley Davidson.
The department of transport's light campaign was launched in a bid to reduce the number of deaths on the road, particularly those of pedestrians.
Motorists can, through December, show their support by driving with their headlights on, and by driving mroe slowly.
According to Wendy Watson, the Arrive Alive spokesperson, Europe has seen a drastic reduction in road deaths since encouraging motorists to drive with their headlights on.
