Shoot Bobby, Motaung protesters shout

2012-08-16 10:30

Mbombela - Protesters, dressed in ANC T-shirts, chanted “Dubula u Bobby” (Shoot Bobby) outside the Nelspruit Regional Court, where Kaizer Chiefs manager Bobby Motaung was appearing on charges of fraud.

Motaung and his partners in Lefika Emerging Equity, Chris Grib and Herbert Theledi, were arrested by the Hawks on Wednesday for allegedly forging tax certificates to win a multimillion-rand Mbombela Stadium design tender.

On Thursday morning, outside court, protesters were chanting anti-Motaung slogans.

A big photo of the late Mbombela municipality speaker, Jimmy Mohlala, was carried by one of the protesters.

‘Who killed Jimmy?’

Mohlala was assassinated in January 2009 after he allegedly blew the whistle on corruption related to the Mbombela Stadium deal. He was about to lay criminal charges when he was killed.

Mohlala’s assassins are yet to be found after the charges against five accused in the case were withdrawn in January.

“Who killed Jimmy?” read another poster outside court.

Inside court the magistrate was discussing whether to allow photographers in the courtroom with legal representatives for the accused.

City Press was reliably informed last week that three warrants of arrest were issued by the Nelspruit Regional Court on August 7.

Former municipal manager Jacob Dladla was found guilty in an internal disciplinary hearing and dismissed in March 2009.

However, the ANC’s Ehlanzeni region instructed its councillors to take a council resolution to clear Dladla of all the charges and pay him R1.5m.

The municipality said the resolution was taken to avoid incurring about R13m in legal fees because Dladla had approached the Labour Court to have his dismissal overturned.

Former mayor Justice Ntsibande was axed due to the friction that was caused by the tender.

    And the washing is out!

      alastair.grant.98 - 2012-08-16 10:43

It's just a cultural thing. Shoot Bobby, shoot the boers, shoot Jimmy Mohlala. Bring me my machine gun and dubula away. Nothing to worry about. I know this because a bunch of senior politicians have told us so. Would they lie to us?

      neil.swart - 2012-08-16 10:48

I don't think that is all the dirty washing though, and I think some of the washing will be burried in the back yard, as usual! Mass graves of dirty washing exists in alot of back yards!!

  • alan.jerrold - 2012-08-16 10:44

There's a saying: 'Your sins will find you out.' With Mohlala, the whistleblower, having been shot dead, the truth about this kind of despicable savagery now needs to come out.

  • hudayfah.newman - 2012-08-16 10:45

Strange, I never saw a 'Who killled stompie?' banner at winnies trial.

      thabang.bonang.7 - 2012-08-16 12:27

Don't start with the "who killed banners". Too many from the apartheid government would have to come to book. Including prominent former leaders. A lot of innocent blood shed which has not been accounted for.

I am confused...yet again. ANC supporters votes for the ANC that takes away the death penalty for murderers but you want to shoot Bobby who might be guilty or not be guilty of FRAUD!! What about the fraud by your ANC leaders? Are you going to shoot them too? Seems like these people do not know what they want? Let's release murderers from jail and shoot fraudsters, yeahh that sounds reasonable. Idiots. Now I underdstand why the ANC will be using you for their own cause which is money and power. Shame on you supporters but unfortubately that is what you are voting for. Oh yes let's also shoot the boer just because our lying leaders tells us it is their fault that SA is in this mess!!!

  • themba.thwala.98 - 2012-08-16 11:10

The hypocrisy of some is tragic, if not comical. Quite a number of whistleblowers were executed under very mysterious circumstances following their making of allegations that the Mbombela tender had been awarded fraudulently. The suspects, including Bobby, were always the suspects. When the ANCYL calls for their execution, the very same people who clamour for the death penalty to be implemented when the victims are white farmers find everything wrong with such calls, even though shooting has the dame results as the death penalty. Now go ahead and click the `not like` as if that`ll change your hypocrisy

      el.torro.509 - 2012-08-16 11:52

Themba, Bobby is standing accused of Fraud, death for fraud is a little extreme, the murderers of farmers are accused of murder so I guess an eye for an eye so its not hypocrisy. Secondly if yóu suspect bobby of murder or conspiracy to murder then produce evidence and go to court at which point then arguably the death sentence should apply. If u ask me we can't even think about applying the death sentence until our police and judiciary are squeeky clean and even then morally its still wrong.

      themba.thwala.98 - 2012-08-16 12:01

Shooting, where it is carried out by the state, also follows due process. The demonstrators are demonstrating for the state to do the same (impose deat, otherwise they would not be demonstrating next to a state institution). Regardless, I don't think those demonstrators literally mean Bobby must be shot. I think they are drawing attention to the fact that people were shot, and he is the suspect. That he has been charged with fraud does not take away the fact that as a result of exposing the very same fraud, people were shot dead, and he is suspect as the mastermind.

      el.torro.509 - 2012-08-16 12:12

Erm Themba there is a MASSIVE difference between suspecting someone of a crime and having the evidence to present to court! Just because that crowd suspected him of doing it doesn't mean that its true and by the same token that its not true, therefore calling for him to be shot is perhaps premature! I still don't see how its hypocrisy altho as I said I don't believe in the states ability to carry out the death penalty!

      themba.thwala.98 - 2012-08-16 12:28

el.toro, I agree with what you have said. My point though, is that people here call for the death penalty even while the suspect is still being tried in court. The ANCYL is doing exactly the same thing, but they are calling them all sorts of names. I do not carry a torch for the ANCYL by the way, but just find this hypocrisy laughable. Robert, I do not have any connection to news24. My comments also censored, and often deleted. So please get over yourself.
