Johannesburg - A 33-year-old man started shooting randomly at patrons in Soweto a shebeen, seriously injuring two people, Johannesburg police said on Sunday.
The man went into the shebeen in Zondi, Extension 1 on Saturday night and asked for a certain song to be played, Inspector Kay Makhubela said.
"After the song was finished he just started shooting randomly at people."
The man fired five shots from his 9mm pistol before his ammunition ran out. Patrons overpowered him and called the police. He wounded two people in the chest.
"They were both in a serious condition and taken to Bara (Chris Hani Baragwanath) Hospital."
He was expected to appear in the Protea Magistrate's Court on charges of attempted murder on Monday.
"We don't know his motive for shooting at the moment."
