Johannesburg - A woman has told how she was mugged inside an Edgars store in the Johannesburg city centre.

Pearl Govender, 24, told The Star she was robbed of her handbag and R16 000 wedding ring by gang of three women who approached her in the shoe section and then surrounded her, telling her to remain quiet and do as they say.

After they took her belongings, she was taken to the escalators by the women.

“I was instructed to take the escalators and count to 10. They were gone by the time I looked down from the escalators,” said Govender.

Govender alerted a security guard and was shown CCTV footage.

“The mugging could not be seen. The security manager said the cameras filmed only the main entrances and the central part of the store.”

It was apparently the second incident in recent weeks.

Edgars responded by saying it would review its in-store security measures.
