2012-07-16 13:30

Johannesburg - Six men appeared in the Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crime Court on Monday in connection with credit card fraud involving millions, the Hawks said.

The men, two South Africans, two Nigerians, one Burundian and a Democratic Republic of Congo citizen would remain in custody until their next court appearance on Friday, spokesperson McIntosh Polela said.

"The Hawks arrested the men in Tembisa, Rosebank, Pretoria and Olifantsfontein on Friday for manufacturing credit cards."

The Hawks received a tip-off about a month ago and started an investigation, in conjunction with Absa, FNB, Standard Bank, and Nedbank.

Polela said 200 credit cards, R5 000 and cash checks worth R1.3m were seized during their arrests.

Proof reading appears not to be one of News24's more endearing skills ....

      That's how Americans spell it.

      scouter.fourone - 2012-07-16 14:50

.... and SA is thankfully not America, Yolande.

      Mike.ntsh2009 - 2012-07-16 14:57

Scouter; What's your problem? SA is also not UK! Both spellings are correct (Check and cheque).

      nosiphom.mazibuko - 2012-07-16 15:31

Have you Yolande and Mike checked on the South African English dictionary how it is spellt, before you declare both spellings correct? I have never seen it spellt the American way here in SA I must add.

Nosiphom. I suggest that you get a spell checker as well!!!! Spellt!!!!

      scouter.fourone - 2012-07-16 16:43

My problem Mike.ntsh, lays in the fact that America did not colonise Africa and therefore did not give the continent the English language. The use of 'Americanisms' is not unlike the use of 'text speak' - which not only degrades the language but also the intellect of the speaker.

      francois.greeff.98 - 2012-07-16 16:47

It is because they did not check out the dictionary.

Throw away the key on them.Innocent people suffer because of people like them. Don't let them out. The scam of the earth think that they are clever, and the rest of us are pawpaws. Lock them in for good, i say.
