Paraglider in critical condition

2012-03-18 14:29

Johannesburg - A man was severely injured during a paragliding accident east of Hartebeespoort, North West, on Sunday morning, paramedics said.

The man's equipment apparently tangled on a rocky outcrop, Netcare 911 spokesperson Jeffrey Wicks said.

Rescue workers searched for the man, and found him hanging upside down.

A medical helicopter was called and landed in a clearing about 200m away.

A trauma doctor and flight paramedic hiked to the patient.

He was found in a critical condition, having sustained severe head and spinal trauma.

Wicks said he was treated on the scene, immobilised and airlifted to Netcare Union Hospital.

Think you're right. Most likely paraglider or base jumper.

      Kingsley - 2012-03-18 19:51

Most probably a paraglider but there are guys that base jump and speed fly in the area too. Very sad, hope you pull through bud.
