Smoking ban 'no loss'

2007-03-09 10:03
line

Johannesburg - Restaurants have suffered no real downturn in business after smoking in public places was banned, Business Day reported on Friday.

According to research findings published in the SA Medical Journal, 59% of 736 restaurants surveyed reported that there had been no change in their revenue, while 22% of restaurants reported an increase in revenues.

The Tobacco Control Amendment Act came into effect six years ago and during public hearings in 1998 the hospitality industry claimed the law would decrease their turnover by a third.

The research carried out by researchers from the University of Cape Town revealed that 19% of restaurants had seen their revenues fall and only 4.5% of restaurant owners reported that revenue had fallen more than 20% in the six years since the legislation came into force.

Shadho says... The MINISTER OF HEALTH IS TALKING THE BIGGEST AMOUNT OF BS WHEN IT COMES TO TRANS FATS. The Government is facing a massive lawsuit cause of his and his Food Directorate FAILURE to introduce Trans Fat Legislation and controls long before they did. They have known about severe health dangers of Trans Fats for many many years yet refused to follow the modern world. Damit how can he make such statements now. OK you just opened pandora's box Minister. There are so many severe and dire food issues that remain unaddressed in the RSA that you are hiding from the public that you have been officialy challenged on and yet you remain deathly silent. You know what they are. To the readers of this article. You may think I am seeking attention and sensationalizing this. Hahah I am the complainant. The only individual citizen to ever have challenged them on many issues other than Trans Fats. Yes they have all been validated as true and correct by the Government yet they DO NOTHING to STOP the fraud and severe health issues etc us mere citizens face daily and or whether in the past, currently and the future it seems. The excuse being NO BUDGET, NO RESOURCES WHETHER HUMAN OR OTHERWISE ETC ETC. Well Done Minister...GAME ON SIR, GAME ON!! NOW I WILL MAKE EVERYTHING I KNOW PUBLIC NOTICE!! and yes Class Action lawsuits may follow. NO longer will this dastardly, despicable, deplorable, heinous, unethical and immoral abuses and fraud be committed against myself and or the citizens of the RSA. Read the article...
