Sound problems delay rally

2011-05-01 14:08

Johannesburg - Speakers at Cosatu's May Day rally in Cape Town's Athlone Stadium were on Sunday forced to wait helplessly as the organisers tried to fix a sound system problem.

Just over 1 000 people in the 40 000-seater stadium sang as they waited for the main programme to begin.

ANC mayoral candidate for Cape Town Tony Ehrenreich asked the crowd to bear with them and continue singing. ANC president Jacob Zuma was expected to address the crowd later on Sunday.

The scorching heat forced journalists sitting on the grass in front of the podium to move to a shadier spot.

What do these morons need sound for? They are totally DEAF!

      The Spear - 2011-05-01 16:03

Did they press the "ON" button?

  • Pat Bromilow-Downing - 2011-05-01 14:28

These guys couldn't organize a piss-up in a brewery. Make CT better? I think NOT.

      edvermaak - 2011-05-01 15:32

Yep - this is a good sign (omen?) of what things will return to if power is regained by the ANC in WC.

      Martin du Plessis - 2011-05-01 17:44

Heh, these "organizers" couldn't hack at firewood if you replaced their hands with axblades

  • Madelane - 2011-05-01 14:50

  • Nunya - 2011-05-01 15:06

Ha ha ha...clowns, and you want to run Cape are a joke!!!

  • v3 - 2011-05-01 15:14

Maybe the crowds are waiting outside the Caoe Town stadium. Or maybe the "poor people" Toney pretends to be concerned about could not afford the bus fare from Athlone.

  • edvermaak - 2011-05-01 15:23

".... forced to wait helplessly... ' such prophetic words...when it comes to the ANC..

      edvermaak - 2011-05-01 15:24

they will ALWAYS be FORCED to wait an eternity for anything to materialise from the ANC

  • General.AlanMuller - 2011-05-01 15:30

    lol who did the sound

  • jaycee - 2011-05-01 15:30

Am I reading the report correct? Only just more than a thousand people attended? And Cosatu wanted the huge Greenpoint stadium for next to nothing and saddled the citizens of the city with the bill. Eye-opener indeed. The ANC (Cosatu) has very little support in Cape Town.

      World Traveler - 2011-05-01 18:07

Cosatu destroyed the clothing industry in Cape Town! Who would want to vote for them? only the brain-dead.

  • William - 2011-05-01 15:33

    speaks volumes....

  • jock van wyk - 2011-05-01 16:00

most of the qualified technicians have either retired or left the country.nothing works in this country or could be repaired

      edvermaak - 2011-05-01 19:21

uhhhumm... what about being forcibly retrenched before retirement age? Plenty of them too...

  • gaaatvol - 2011-05-01 16:07

Oh my word! They forgot to organise the buses and the T-shirts too! Only way to draw crowds bigger than a few thousand.

  • BigMoose - 2011-05-01 16:17

1 000? Tony, didn't you tell them about the free t-shirts and chicken? Next time, hold your rally at a shebeen, with a karaoke system, so that Zuma can sing "Mshini Wam".

  • Judith - 2011-05-01 17:38

Shame - and they wouldn't pay for the Greenpoint Stadium, where everything would have been set up just fine?

  • c1 - 2011-05-01 17:45

  • World Traveler - 2011-05-01 18:02

Only 1000! Ha! Ha! Bring in Zuma's wives and you will double the crowd!!

      edvermaak - 2011-05-01 19:20

Not to mention all his illigitimate children...

  • tryanything - 2011-05-01 19:43

    Cat pissed on the matches

  • Blip - 2011-05-02 03:31

The echo in a hollow empty stadium must have caused feedback to blow up their PA amplifiers! What a bunch of sad-sack losers! They could have huddled the whole "crowd" on the grass and simply raised your voice slightly. Or had a battery loudhailer with the volume set at 2/10.
