Johannesburg - The well-wishers gathered outside former president Nelson Mandela's home in Houghton, Johannesburg, on Saturday said they enjoyed seeing South Africans come together to celebrate his life.

"It's remarkable to see people of all races come together to celebrate the legacy that Mandela has left for us," said Cindy Snyman.

"I am glad that I brought my family here to witness South Africans coming together so peacefully. It makes me proud to be a South African," said Shaakira Saeed.

Mandela died at the house on Thursday night at the age of 95.

His memorial service will be held at FNB stadium, in Johannesburg, on Tuesday and he will be buried at Qunu, in the Eastern Cape, where he grew up, next Sunday.
