Johannesburg - A man has been arrested for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl in Meadowlands, Soweto, Gauteng police said on Sunday.

The girl left her home in Meadowlands zone five on Tuesday without telling her mother where she was going, Constable Sibusiso Chauke said.

Her mother reported her missing at the Meadowlands police station the next day. Around 18:00 on the same day, the mother was walking in zone five when she saw the girl.

Her daughter told her the man grabbed her and took her to his home in Meadowlands zone three. When she arrived there, he told her to keep quiet and gave her a cool drink.

"He later undressed her and raped her," Chauke said.

"The next day he let her go. The victim and her mother went to Meadowlands Saps to report the matter. The suspect was traced on Thursday night and arrested."

The man was expected to appear in the Protea Magistrate's Court on Monday.
