Soweto man in court for rape

2012-05-07 17:57
Johannesburg - A man appeared in the Protea Magistrate's Court on Monday in connection with the rape of a woman in Jabulani, Soweto, Gauteng police said.

Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela said the matter was postponed to May 14 for further investigation.

"The 27-year-old woman said in court a second man was involved."

Makhubela said the men apparently gave the woman drugs before raping her.

Patrolling police in Jabulani saw two people struggling in the veld at about 03:00 on Saturday.

"At first it looked like two people were fighting, but upon closer inspection we realised it was a woman being raped," Makhubela said.

He said it was clear that the woman had been drugged before the rape. She was taken to hospital for treatment.

Makhubela said police were searching for the second man.
