Soweto mom appears for child neglect

Johannesburg - A woman accused of neglecting her children in Zola, Soweto, appeared in the Protea Magistrate's Court on Thursday, police said.

She was released on a warning and would be back in court on Friday, Warrant Officer Kay Makhubele said.

"The case was postponed to involve social workers, to check if she is fit to stay with [her] children."

The 31-year-old woman was arrested on Wednesday morning for allegedly leaving her four children, aged 8, 4, 2, and 1, unattended.

A neighbour saw the children playing naked outside their shack in the cold on Tuesday afternoon. When she found a hot-plate on inside the house, she called the police.

The mother was found at her boyfriend's house. The children were taken to a place of safety.

why does it have to be investigated if she is fit to stay with her children, the story proves she does not! She left them unattended, so we can assume that means without food, they were playing naked outside in the cold and she left a hotplate on which could have burned down the shack with her children inside, and why, because she was living it up with her boyfriend? My word, it's no wonder this country is so messed up, because people like this are allowed to be parents!

It's easy to blame mothers for child neglect when fathers can disappear from the scene and not called back to account for their neglect
