Johannesburg - A woman and her son have been arrested in Diepkloof, Soweto, for possession of dagga with an estimated street value of R100 000, police said on Thursday.

Police stopped and searched the 28-year-old man while conducting an operation around 21:00 on Wednesday, Lieutenant Colonel Tshisikhawe Ndou said.

They found a large quantity of dagga in a plastic bag he was carrying, he said.

"The man led the officers to his 52-year-old mother's house, where they found 11 bags of dagga and two safes containing R36 000 in cash."

The money and dagga was hidden under a bed the woman was sleeping on at the time, Ndou said.

The two were expected to appear in the Orlando Magistrate's Court soon.
