Spear-wielding man attacks couple in home

Bloemfontein - A couple from Allanridge in the Free State believe they are lucky to be alive after a man broke into their home, waited for them in the house all day and attacked them as they returned from a Sunday lunch.
When Johan, 64, and Sharon, 60, Lourens returned to their home on Sunday afternoon at about 15:00, they saw their alarm wasn’t working and heard their dogs barking furiously, reported Volksblad.
“Suddenly the man stormed at me and kept stabbing with the spear. I tried to block it, but was powerless,” said Sharon who needed an operation to her thumb and was also stabbed in her arms.
Her husband came to her aid, managing to take the man’s spear and but sustained five stab wounds in the process.
She said their attacker - who ran away without taking anything - wanted to kill them.
“He doesn’t want to steal, he wants to murder. I am terrified.
“Blood pumped out of our wounds. The whole passageway floor and walls were red with blood,” she said.
The couple said they thought the same man had broken into their house twice before, prompting them to upgrade their security.
“I feel angry and powerless. The best security doesn’t help; what more can we do?”
The couple would now install the most advanced security technology as well as install a guard at their home.
“This was for us a final warning. You always think something like this will happen to someone else!”
