Johannesburg - President Jacob Zuma has declared a special official funeral for former Chief Justice Pius Langa who passed away on Wednesday.

The presidency said in a statement that Justice Langa had been driven by a thirst for equality and justice for all, educating himself through Unisa and finally rising through the ranks to become one of our country's finest legal minds

He was, among others, a founding member of the National Association of Democratic Lawyers, an affiliate of the United Democratic Front and played an active role in the struggle against apartheid.

Justice Langa had been involved in the work of the Convention for democratic South Africa (Codesa) and had been a member of the constitutional committee of the African National Congress.

The flag will fly at half mast at every flag pole from 29 July to 3 August, the day of the funeral.
