Cape Town - A police investigation into alleged reckless and negligent driving that might involve African National Congress former chief whip Tony Yengeni has been referred to a senior state prosecutor.
Police have started investigating an incident during which a couple reported driving behind a Mercedes-Benz that was zig-zagging crazily across a road in Milnerton.
The Mercedes eventually crashed against the pavement with such force that it blew all four tyres.
Superintendent Debbie Pheiffer could not confirm whether Yengeni was driving, but only that the vehicle that was being investigated was registered in his wife's name.
According to witnesses, a man matching a description of Yengeni was behind the wheel that night.
