Johannesburg - Police caught thieves red-handed on Sunday using a fork-lift to steal iron and steel from a business in Isando on the East Rand.
Ekurhuleni metro police spokesman Inspector Kobeli Mokheseng said three men were arrested while a fourth, believed to be a former employee of the company, was still at large.
He said Germiston police's organised crime unit requested back-up support from the metro police to surround the company premises after receiving a tip-off.
"They were busy taking 16 tons of steel sheets and angle iron to the value of R117 000," Mokheseng said.
The thieves, who had entered in two Hino trucks, were expected to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrates' Court soon.
