Johannesburg - A man was arrested on Sunday for allegedly raping his 14-year-old stepdaughter in Moletsane, Soweto police said.

Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela said the 38-year-old went to a funeral with his wife on Saturday.

"When they were at a funeral the woman took her husband's cellphone and scrolled through the messages. She found a message to her daughter saying 'thank you very much for what we did yesterday, I enjoyed it'," he said.

When the woman asked her husband what it meant he could not answer her, Makhubela said.

After they got home she asked her daughter, who told her the man raped her on Thursday and Friday night. Makhubela said the mother and daughter went to police to open a case.

The man was arrested and charged with rape on Sunday. He was expected to appear in court soon.
