Pretoria - A suspected stolen vehicle started a domino effect on Thursday which led to the arrest of seven people and the retrieval of about R1 million in stolen goods.
Inspector Anton Breedt said police made the breakthrough when they arrested an official of the department of correctional services who was suspected of owning a stolen or hijacked vehicle. The man led police to a flat in Sunnyside, Pretoria, and the two men who sold him the car.
After their arrest, the two suspects accompanied police to two houses in Mamelodi, where police arrested three other suspects. Officers confiscated six cars, two of which had been hijacked in the East Rand earlier, as well as two pistols that might have been used in the hijackings.
More information led police to Mpumalanga where they confiscated stolen television sets and video machines. Another man was arrested.
